Black Widow Spider Bite Treatment

Self-Care at Home

• Seek immediate emergency medical treatment.
  
  
• Wrap ice in a washcloth or similiar material and place it on the bite area.
  
  
• Leave it on for 10 minutes and then off for 10 minutes.
  
  
• Repeat this process.

Medical Treatment

• If possible bring the spider to the emergency room.
  
  
• Knowing the time of the bite and the location of the bite is helpful.
  
  
• The type of treatment will depend on the symptoms.
  
  
• Pain medication, muscle relaxants, and drugs to lower blood pressure may be needed.
  
  
• Antivenin is only given in severe cases as severe allergic reactions can occur.
